Public Talk: 02/17 in LFK!
Hey folks; Kevin Dorman (they/them) here! I wanted to share with you all that I will be hosting a free, public talk about gender-affirming voice work at the Public Library in Lawrence, Kansas on Tuesday, February 17th at 5:30 pm!
This is a talk I’ve wanted to do ever since we moved here in August 2024; however, an unexpected diagnosis of tongue cancer that fall abruptly and radically reorganized my priorities for the following year! I’m very grateful that my health is finally in a place where I feel comfortable and capable of hosting an hour and a half talk like this— as many of you know, I can discuss this work for hours, and it’s been a challenge to focus on myself and not my passion for such an extended amount of time.
To attend this talk, there’s no registration, nothing fancy you need to do; just mosey over to the Lawrence Public Library a little before 5:30 on the 17th so we can start on time! The talk will be an hour of me yapping followed by 30 mins of Q&A until our closing time at 7:00 pm; at that point, I will need to clean up the auditorium with the Library staff. After that, I’ll probably hang around for a beat or two in case anyone has questions they’d like to discuss but didn’t feel comfortable voicing in the group environment!
I’ve been working hard on promoting this event for the past couple weeks; if you’re a frequent visitor of downtown Lawrence, I apologize for staring you down from multiple store fronts and alleyways via the little poster I threw together to get the word out. Our friends over at the Lawrence World Journal should be publishing information about the event the week before, as well! If you’re interested in helping me spread the news, download our poster to the right, and try not to focus too much on the hasty Photoshop job I did of removing the background of my pic.
Oh, and just so it’s stated: there will be absolutely no tolerance of transphobia, bigotry, or sealioning at this talk. If you are found to be disruptive and unreasonably uncivil, you will be removed from the talk. Can’t wait for the day where I don’t have to be so defensive about stuff like that, but here we are.
