What Voice Therapy Costs

Free Consultation! 30 minutes

This service is available for individuals who aren't certain if they are ready to commit to an assessment by Prismatic Speech Services. During this time, our clinician will address whatever questions you may have, as well as give a general overview of the assessment and treatment processes. For transgender clients who are interested, this may incorporate advice into how to effectively explore one's gender identity.

Assessment 45 minutes $100

An assessment involves an examination of the potential client's relevant history as well as their current abilities. This is an extensive process, as we want to feel confident that we have taken all factors into consideration when developing a plan for treatment. Once the assessment is concluded, our clinician will take the data and develop a plan for our client's time with Prismatic Speech Services, then contact the client and schedule a follow-up meeting to discuss results. The client and clinician will meet, discuss whether treatment is indicated at this time, discuss the developed plan, make any adjustments necessary, then have both parties sign that they agree to follow the plan.

Standard Session 45 minutes $100/Session

Weekly sessions are typical; fortnightly sessions (every other week) are also available for clients if it is more financially viable. Treatment will be comprised of skilled intervention techniques selected to achieve your therapy goals. Said techniques may be adapted or modified depending on the individual needs of the client. The total number of sessions is dependent on many factors; we aim for roughly 10-12 sessions of voice practice.

Now Taking Aetna in VA, NC, SC, GA, KS, MO, OH, NM!

As of October 2026, Kevin Dorman (they/them) is credentialed with Aetna! If you live in a state they're licensed in and have Aetna insurance, book a free consultation and provide us your insurance information so we can make sure your specific plan includes speech-language pathology!

Accepting HSAs and FSAs!

Many clients with HSAs and FSAs report success paying for sessions with these funds. We haven't run into any problems accepting this form of payment, and we haven't heard of our clients encountering difficulties on their side!

Why We're Primarily Private Pay

Outside of Kevin's recent Aetna acceptance, we are still a primarily private pay service provider. Our focus for the past decade has been providing a lower base cost outside of insurance to increase the accessibility of our services, particularly since insurance coverage of gender-affirming services has been on the decline over the past couple years. Reducing upfront cost means you and your clinician don't need to worry about insurance approval, you don't need a diagnosis to find a voice that feels like home. We'll still give you everything you need to seek reimbursement, and we'll help you figure out what to ask your insurer.

Out-Of-Network Insurance Reimbursement

Does Insurance Cover Gender-Affirming Voice Work?

Sometimes! Many plans reimburse out-of-network speech therapy, but not all. If insurance reimbursement is a significant factor in your ability to engage with this work, we suggest you follow the following steps to check before paying for anything:

  1. Call your insurer and say you're seeking an out-of-network speech-language pathologist for a voice assessment and voice treatment.
  2. Give them the codes: 92524-95 (assessment via telehealth) and 92507-95 (treatment via telehealth); suspected diagnosis in the ICD-10 R49 family (such as R49.8)
  3. Ask what paperwork they need, such as a prior authorization or a referral letter. Tell your Prismatic clinician so you can work with them to secure these documents before you begin working together.
  4. After sessions, submit the documentation we provide to your insurer to file for reimbursement.

Kevin: If you've been interested in pursuing gender-affirming voice work with us, but find the private pay rate a little unsustainable for your budget, we would like to help. We've worked with many clients over the years to help them successfully receive reimbursement from major insurance companies, such as BlueCross BlueShield, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and many other payers. We've even had recent success getting Cigna to cover the majority of costs upfront, leaving just a standard copay for the client to knock out. We make it as easy as possible to look into the likelihood of reimbursement before paying for anything, before even meeting for a free consultation.

All you have to do is go to prismaticspeech.com/insurance. There, you'll find a list of questions and talking points to take to your insurance company, including CPT codes and ICD-10 codes typically used; questions about any additional documentation either you or your Prismatic provider need to take care of before getting started, like a prior authorization or a referral from someone in your healthcare network. We want to jump through any hoops that we have to in order to give you the best shot at getting reimbursed.

So: make sure you look into those before getting started with us, if insurance reimbursement would be impactful for you. If you have any questions about this process, please don't hesitate to reach out. I want to make this as transparent a process as possible so you can get all the information that you can before deciding to work with us or not. Thank you so much, and have a good day!
