Kevin Dorman

MS, CCC-SLP
Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist
Serves VA, NC, SC, GA

About Kevin

Raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Kevin (they/them) has always felt a strong connection to their voice. First gaining flexibility and control of their voice by playing with their family members and friends, Kevin grew in their skills through heavy involvement with the arts throughout their early life, including auditioned choirs, a capella groups, and an early career as a voice actor for half a dozen years. Looking for a way to channel their passion for voice production into a career, Kevin was immediately enthralled by speech-language pathology, which gave them both the knowledge of underlying mechanics of voice production/modification and how to teach others these skills in an efficient manner. Kevin founded Prismatic in 2016 to provide gender affirming voice work in an accessible format for their fellow North Carolinians, a service they were passionate about and was sorely lacking in the state. Kevin expanded their license from just North Carolina to include South Carolina, then Virginia and Georgia over the following years, and hopes to serve even more states in the near future. They are a founding member of the Trans Voice Initiative and an active member of Charlotte Trans Health on the Transgender Provider Committee.

Eli Van Hook

MA, CCC-SLP

About Eli

Eli Van Hook (they/them) is a speech-language pathologist whose goal is to serve the trans and gender diverse community by providing the best gender affirming voice care possible. Eli received their Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Kean University in New Jersey. In graduate school, they co-created the Gender Spectrum Voice Inventory (GSVI), the first comprehensive trans voice assessment to be made for all folks across the gender spectrum. Eli’s research published on the GSVI can be found in the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Perspectives publication. While their focus at Prismatic is primarily in gender affirming voice training, they also have experience and knowledge from her time as a graduate student with the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Voice Program in medical conditions (such as vocal nodules, head & neck cancer) that can further impede one’s own authentic vocal expression. To strive towards the best gender affirming voice care they can provide, they utilize and seek up-to-date evidence-based practices and the expertise of other gender diverse clinicians who have come before them.
In addition to their work at Prismatic, they currently work in an inpatient medical facility serving those with swallowing, voice, and language disorders. They live in Asheville, and on the weekends they can be found drawing architecture, on a hike, or snuggling their black cats Lior and Ezra.

Eden Yaacobi

MS, CCC-SLP
Speech-Language Pathologist
Serves NC

About Eden

Eden Yaacobi (she/they) is a gender fluid Speech-Language Pathologist Clinical Fellow. They received her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a B.S. in Communication Sciences & Disorders with a minor in Diversity & Social Inequality from the University of Central Florida.

Growing up with a deep love of singing, acting, dancing, and theater, it was only a matter of time before she found herself in the voice world of Speech Pathology. As a graduate student, Eden pursued extensive experiences to grow as a voice clinician, interning in the Otolaryngology department at Wake Forest Hospital treating functional and organic voice and upper airway disorders, at UNCG’s Speech and Hearing Clinic, as well as with Prismatic Speech Services. They centered their graduate Capstone on “Cultural Responsiveness: The Experiences of Gender Diverse Clients & Clinicians in Speech-Language Pathology,” to address the gap in education on affirming practices for new and seasoned providers in the field working with the trans community.

Eden approaches sessions with an emphasis on play and experimentation, helping clients develop an awareness of somatic sensations, and ensuring a healthy voice production is maintained along the way. She encourages open and honest communication, and celebrates the diverse perspectives clients enter this work with. In their free time, Eden finds joy and fulfillment in curling up with a good book and her cat Suki, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, exploring nearby creeks and rivers, singing & dancing, and spending quality time with loved ones.
